A Few Thoughts On The Situation In Venezuela

This is a catchy title for an article: Venezuelan Army besieged hundreds of protesters in Maturin cathedral.  The paragraphs quoted below are from the article [1]:

Bishop Enrique Pérez Lavado of Maturin reported that seminarians, priests, and some 700 people participating in the demonstration were besieged in the cathedral, with the military “trying to break their way inside,” according to the Venezuelan bishops’ conference on Twitter.
Soon after, Pérez reported that the soldiers had surrounded the church, with more than a thousand opposition demonstrators inside: “The National Bolivarian Army is guarding the entrances to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cathedral where there are more than a thousand opposition supporters.
According to a report on Twitter by Radio Fe y Alegría, government supporters were also inside the cathedral. The station said that Father Samael Gamboa negotiated with the security forces for the people to leave in groups, “to guarantee their human rights.”

The people took refuge in the cathedral due to repression by the regime’s security forces and by pro-government groups.

During the protests, a group of demonstrators set fire to the headquarters of the ruling United Socialist Party in Maturín.

“After more than three hours trapped inside the Maturín cathedral, the group of opposition supporters managed to begin leaving” at 5:00 pm, Radio Fe y Alegría reported.

The opposition marches were supported by the Venezuelan bishops, some of whom participated. The marches marked the anniversary of a 1958 coup which overthrew dictator Marcos Perez Jimenez.

Firstly, seminarians, priests and bishops are supposed to follow Christ and by following Christ, they are not supposed to take part in politics.  Yet, they asserted their rights when they are supposed to give up their rights and become martyrs.  Did Christ Who stood before Pontius Pilate defend Himself or ask for a defense counsel?

Secondly, demonstrations are supposed to be civilized and peaceful, yet "a group of demonstrators set fire to the headquarters of the ruling United Socialist Party in Maturín." [2]

Thirdly, Venezuela is truly suffering economically.  Who started this?  Trying to find an answer, this blogger found this paragraph in an article dated March 12, 2015, entitled Why is the United States sanctioning Venezuela? [3] that is quoted below:

Lost amid the Iran kerfuffle this week was a curious decision by the Obama administration to declare Venezuela an “extraordinary threat to the national security” of the United States, in order to levy sanctions against individual Venezuelan leaders.

Right above a photograph of a graffiti-filled wall in the article quoted immediately above are these words: "We've got sanctions, sanctions, sanctions, sanctions, sanctions, sanctions, diplomacy, and sanctions."

Will war break out in South America like what had occurred in Syria and in Iraq and in Libya?  Many foreign leaders think they can fix Venezuela by giving the opposition support when they cannot even manage their own domestic oppositions effectively without conflicts.

What instigated all this suffering from Iraq to Syria to Libya and to Venezuela?  Hunger for power and world domination?  Satan?  Are they not one and the same?

Encouraging Catholic Youths Or Poisoning Their Minds?

The following paragraph is part of Bergoglio's speech during the opening ceremony at World Youth Day 2019 [1]:

A saint from these lands liked to say that, “Christianity is not a collection of truths to be believed, of rules to be followed, or of prohibitions. Seen that way it puts us off. Christianity is a person who loved me immensely, who demands and asks for my love. Christianity is Christ” (cf. Saint Oscar Romero, Homily, 6 November 1977). It means pursuing the dream for which he gave his life: loving with the same love with which he loved us.

Does that mean Catholics no longer need to attend Sunday Mass, go to confession and receive Holy Communion, or even pray the rosary for that matter?  If that is truly what leads all souls to Heaven, then the there is no need to print anymore hard copies of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and to maintain the Vatican website dedicated to it [2].

When Christ said go and sin no more [3], is that not Christianity?  According to Bergoglio, quoting some saint who said, "'Christianity is not a collection of truths to be believed, of rules to be followed, or of prohibitions'" [4], then it must not be part of Christianity since those words of Christ are both a rule to be followed and a prohibition.  Based on this conclusion, then all of Christ's admonitions must be not deemed to be a part of Christianity, according to Bergoglio.

This blogger is really disillusioned.  How is he to defend Christ's words when someone quotes this pope quoting a saint the words in the paragraph quoted above with tacit approval?  He can only shake his head in silence and embarrassment and admit to himself that Satan is powerful, extremely powerful, and that it has found a body to possess and that is Bergoglio's, and perhaps some others too.

2019 - Bernadette Soubirous Year

"The year 2019 celebrates the 175th anniversary of the birth of Bernadette Soubirous and the 140th anniversary of her death." [1]

Sainte Bernadette Soubirous is one of this blogger's favorite saints.  A book by Fr. Rene Laurentin, who passed away "on September 10, 2017," about two months short of his 100th birthday [2], entitled Bernadette Speaks: A Life of Saint Bernadette Soubirous in Her Own Words  is a worthwhile read for those who would like to learn about Bernadette.

Starting with Part 1, excluding the glossary, the softcover book has 634 pages, and is fairly heavy.  At the moment, this blogger is on page 564.  It has taken him some time to get this far.  He is not a book reviewer and has no opinion on the book except that he likes it.

With 70 more pages to go, he is already able to affirm for himself that Bernadette Soubirous is without a doubt one of God's saints, as opposed to a "political" one with questionable claims.

New App: "Click To Pray"

"Click to Pray" is Bergoglio's new app, explained by lifehacker.com  as follows [1]:

If you’ve always wanted to pray with the Pope, now there’s an app for that.

Pope Francis unveiled “Click to Pray” app this weekend. Exactly what it sounds like, the praying app allows people (if they’re the praying sort) from around the world to come together to pray about a certain issue.

While it is better to pray than not to pray at all, this blogger supposes that having such an app is rather innocuous, or is it not?  Clicking on a prayer app to satisfy a curiosity or to displace a momentary boredom does not adequately prepare one for true prayer.  True prayer begins with earnestness rooted in humility before God.  Merely clicking on Bergoglio's prayer app is no different from clicking on any other app since the purpose of Bergoglio's app is to have people pray about "a certain issue" and in the case of Bergoglio, likely a political or a tragic one.

True prayer, defined here, is not an ephemeral wish list that comes and goes like news of the day.  Rather, it arises from a continuous relationship with God, an extremely close one, one that is unique and personal that characterizes every prayer.

True prayer is unique not because content of the prayer is one of a kind but because everyone has a certain set of challenges and limitations and for a prayer to be a true prayer, one has to necessarily bring to one's consciousness all of one's challenges and limitations while praying.  This cannot be done mechanically or perfunctorily.  One's entire body, mind and soul have to be fully engaged.

True prayer is personal because the relationship between oneself and God is built on one's love for God and God's love in return.  This is no different from a child's personal relationship with a parent.  This personal parental relationship also holds true when the parent is the God the Father Himself.

To say that a prayer can be like a communal wish list to fix problems of the world and mitigate its tragedies is to mock what is true prayer as defined here.  A prayer without deep thought and feeling, humility and love, vulnerability and dependence, concentration and active communication with God--not Bergoglio's app--is a mockery.

This, sadly, does not seem to concern Bergoglio in the least.

For Bergoglio, the number of hits on his app would be a gauge of his popularity on a daily basis.  What an ego trip it would be for him if he were to see see millions of smart phone users logging in.  One day, perhaps, everyone will realize that Satan that is in this world is far more popular than Christ ever was in His day.  If Christ were to put His words in an app for smart phone users, He would not have a huge following because what He teaches is neither popular nor political.

Bergoglio, however, has remained popular with many people, including many of the mob-mentality youth, despite his refusal to be transparent with Vatican finances, corruption and sex scandals, but his willingness to secularize everything that is holy without exception has helped.  To have his kind of worldly popularity, he must have the backing of the prince of darkness.  And why would not the prince of darkness support him?  He is after all in charge of the Catholic Church and it is the Church that the prince of darkness wants to destroy.

Admittedly, there had been many popes in the past who had been tempted and likely none had been successful in rejecting every single temptation the prince of darkness had put forth.  What makes Bergoglio different from his predecessors is that he has become its pawn willingly without reservation, with God's permission of course, something this blogger does not understand.

Heart Of The Cross

At the heart of the true cross is love, and only pure love, but what about pain and suffering?  Many people believe that love hurts.  This blogger has a contrary view.  Love does not hurt, pride does.

Love is all about giving; pride is all about keeping.  How can anything hurt when it is given away?  Only when one does not give fully of one's love, when one gives it conditionally is when the giving of love hurts and hurts deeply.

Pride is loud, arrogant and aggressive but it is also sensitive, vulnerable and it hurts easily.  Pure love is quiet, meek and is a force of calm and stillness, fearless and unconquerable.

When Christ suffered under Pontius Pilate and was crucified for the love of sinners, did He not feel pain?  As the Son of God, He did not have to, but He took on human flesh and was willing to go all the way.

Christ's love for man was and is immeasurably greater than the pain man can inflict upon Him.  His pain, this blogger surmises, was to a degree dampened by His unconditional love because no man, however strong, would be able to endure such intense and relentless pain, hunger and thirst for so many hours without having a temporary loss of consciousness.  Christ remained conscious at all times during His Passion until His final breath.

So does love really not hurt?  No, Christ did not hurt one bit in the giving of His love; it was sin and evil that inflicted pain and suffering upon His Holy flesh.  The same sin and evil also caused the Mother of God unquantifiable anguish and sorrow to see Her Son through His Passion.

Therefore, at the heart of the physical cross Christ bore and the invisible cross His Mother bore is love, pure love.

Clergy Sexual Predation Not Limited To Males

Catholic News Agency  published an article dated January 18, 2019, entitled Sister resigns from Detroit seminary after sex abuse allegations.  It stated that "Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit announced this week the resignation of Sr. Mary Finn, 84, a long-time faculty member and assistant professor of theology, after allegations surfaced that she had sexual contact with young adult novices under her charge in the 1970s." [1]

Does the vow of chastity not mean anything to her and other despicable creatures in the clergy that abuse their authority regardless of their gender and sexual orientation?

"In her resignation letter, posted to the seminary’s website, Finn admits to having 'misused my position of authority as a director of novices in the Home Visitors of Mary (HVM) Order, engaging in inappropriate conduct with two adult novices. I regret that behavior, have repented of my actions, and sincerely apologize for the harm I have caused.'" [2]

Finn did not "misuse" her authority; she abused  her authority.  She not only engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct, she had destroyed the lives of young women who wanted to serve God.  That is not simply a "harm" that she can mitigate by her untimely apology, one that was forced upon her by "allegations" that had "surfaced."

This blogger suspects that there are many lesbian nuns who are sexually active, consensually and non-consensually.  Finn's exposure is merely a glimpse into a kind of perversion that can take place within an all-female religious community.

2019 Letters By Viganò and Wuerl

Viganò's letter dated January 13, 2019, made one central point which called for McCarrick to "confess and repent of [his] sins, crimes and sacrileges, and do so publicly..." (the entirety of the letter was included in an article published by the Catholic National Register) [1].

This blogger's opinions and quotations are as follows:

1.  The gravity of one's sins is for one's own conscience to know and for God to judge.
2.  The confessions and repentances of sins are between the penitent and the confessor.
3.  "Jesus said to [Peter], 'What if I want him to remain until I come? What concern is it of yours?'" [2]
4.  This letter was dated January 13, 2019, a Sunday, so Viganò should have given it a rest, regardless of his courage in exposing hidden facts in his previous letters.  "The Gospel reports many incidents when Jesus was accused of violating the sabbath law. But Jesus never fails to respect the holiness of this day. He gives this law its authentic and authoritative interpretation: "The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath." With compassion, Christ declares the sabbath for doing good rather than harm, for saving life rather than killing. The sabbath is the day of the Lord of mercies and a day to honor God. "The Son of Man is lord even of the sabbath." [3]  What good does it do to extract vengeance?
5.  Will the Church really "heal" with McCarrick's public confession and repentance?  There are religious in the Church who continue to sin, continually wounding the Church, in ways that may be different than McCarrick's.

Wuerl's letter dated January 12, 2019, published by Lifesitenews [4] was, based on this blogger's assumptions and opinions, largely exculpatory.  The points that follow are subjective:

1. This letter sounds like a preemptive strike against possible criminal charges that might be levied against Wuerl.
2.  This letter does not read like one Wuerl himself wrote but one written by brilliant legal minds that had cost the Church funds that could have gone to assist the needy.
3.  Wuerl could have the world's best attorneys all gather behind him to defend him but none of them will speak as effectively as the truth.
4.  No lawyer will likely want to die together with Wuerl so that Wuerl can have representation before God, not to mention the challenges in setting up a fee arrangement when eternity is at stake.
5.  It is a very lonely and fearful moment when one has nowhere to run and hide from one's truth.

Prophesy Of Saint Francis Of Assisi Revisited

Quoted below is from catholictradition.org  quoting "Works of the Seraphic Father St. Francis Of Assisi, Washbourne, 1882, pp. 248-250" [1]:

1. The time is fast approaching in which there will be great trials and afflictions; perplexities and dissensions, both spiritual and temporal, will abound; the charity of many will grow cold, and the malice of the wicked will increase.

2. The devils will have unusual power, the immaculate purity of our Order, and of others, will be so much obscured that there will be very few Christians who will obey the true Sovereign Pontiff and the Roman Church with loyal hearts and perfect charity. At the time of this tribulation a man, not canonically elected, will be raised to the Pontificate, who, by his cunning, will endeavor to draw many into error and death.

3. Then scandals will be multiplied, our Order will be divided, and many others will be entirely destroyed, because they will consent to error instead of opposing it.

4. There will be such diversity of opinions and schisms among the people, the religious and the clergy, that, except those days were shortened, according to the words of the Gospel, even the elect would be led into error, were they not specially guided, amid such great confusion, by the immense mercy of God.

5. Then our Rule and manner of life will be violently opposed by some, and terrible trials will come upon us. Those who are found faithful will receive the crown of life; but woe to those who, trusting solely in their Order, shall fall into tepidity, for they will not be able to support the temptations permitted for the proving of the elect.

6. Those who preserve in their fervor and adhere to virtue with love and zeal for the truth, will suffer injuries and, persecutions as rebels and schismatics; for their persecutors, urged on by the evil spirits, will say they are rendering a great service to God by destroying such pestilent men from the face of the earth. but the Lord will be the refuge of the afflicted, and will save all who trust in Him. And in order to be like their Head, [Christ] these, the elect, will act with confidence, and by their death will purchase for themselves eternal life; choosing to obey God rather than man, they will fear nothing, and they will prefer to perish rather than consent to falsehood and perfidy.

7. Some preachers will keep silence about the truth, and others will trample it under foot and deny it. Sanctity of life will be held in derision even by those who outwardly profess it, for in those days JESUS CHRIST WILL SEND THEM NOT A TRUE PASTOR, BUT A DESTROYER." [EMPHASIS as quoted from catholictradition.org.]

On this very prophesy of San Francesco d'Assisi, there is an article dated November 16 (without a year, but probably in 2017) written by Christopher Ferrara entitled A Stunning Prophecy by Saint Francis  To Whom Does It Apply? You Decide...  In it, the author referred to "an interesting anecdote regarding the current pontificate:  the former Cardinal Bergoglio.... In that regard," [2] the author noted that Bergoglio once joked about he (Bergoglio) being "'Jesus II'" [3], [4].

In order that Bergoglio is the person referred to in Saint Francis of Assisi's prophesy, he had to be "a man, not canonically elected, [who] will be raised to the Pontificate, who, by his cunning, will endeavor to draw many into error and death." [5]

The question therefore is this: was Bergoglio was canonically elected and raised to the Pontificate?

This blogger is neither knowledgeable nor smart enough to answer the question, or even imagine one.  There is, however, a highly educated and intelligent man that gave this blogger the help that he needed to arrive at his conclusion.

The help came in the form of an article published on September 28, 2018, by The Catholic World Report  entitled Francis was never pope? Call me unpersuaded  written by Edward N. Peters.  One is able to read it and come to one's own conclusion.  The conclusion this blogger drew, reasonably or unreasonably, was based on this paragraph below [6], quoted without hyperlink:

Contrary to Universi Dominici Gregis 78, before or during the conclave some electors might have entered into simoniacal agreements to vote for Bergoglio subjecting themselves to latae sententiae excommunication and rendering, under older law, the election of the pope invalid. But, in that same ¶ 78, John Paul II (for the peace of the Church) expressly provided for the validity of a papal election achieved in simony—even if it involved the new pope himself. So much for that argument.

The words that this blogger wants to highlight from the paragraph quoted above are these: "before or during the conclave some electors might have entered into simoniacal agreements to vote for Bergoglio subjecting themselves to latae sententiae excommunication and rendering, under older law, the election of the pope invalid." [Emphasis added.] [7]

When Saint Francis of Assisi made his prophesy, Section 78 as amended by John Paul II was not in existence.  Saint Francis of Assisi's prophesy was made based on the original Section 78 and accordingly, the election of Bergoglio as pope was invalid or, in other words, non-canonical [8] even by the author's own admission in the paragraph quoted above.

The author's conclusion that Bergoglio was canonically elected does not invalidate Saint Francis of Assisi's prophesy, assuming that Saint Francis of Assisi's prophesy refers to Bergoglio.  The conclusion and the prophesy were each based on a different canon separated by time.  Saint Francis of Assisi looked to the future based on his then present whereas the author's analysis is based only on the "current" present.  Both the conclusion and the prophesy are in a way symbiotic.

This symbiosis is evidence of Divine Providence: God had allowed Francesco d'Assisi to make a prophesy before his death on October 3, 1226, [10] long before Karol Józef Wojtyła was even born [11].  When Karol Wojtyla became pope, God gave him the foresight to amend Section 78 to allow for Bergoglio "be raised to the Pontificate" (quoting Saint Francis of Assisi), licitly (canonically) during the papal conclave on March 13, 2013, [12] but illicitly (non-canonically) by applying the fact that a group of cardinals had made "simoniacal agreements" to Section 78 operative during the time when Francesco d'Assisi made his prophesy in order to make Bergoglio pope.

In order for Saint Francis of Assisi's prophesy to be credible, what may appear to be a conflict, that Bergoglio was both non-canonically and canonically elected, had to take place--non-canonically elected based on the old law because that was mentioned in the prophesy and as amended, canonically elected because that was the only way Bergoglio was able to be pope.

After reading Saint Francis of Assisi's prophesy repeatedly and taking into considerations many of the events, past and ongoing, under Bergoglio, this blogger concludes with near certainty that the man Saint Francis of Assisi was referring to in his prophesy is indeed the current pope.  Even for this blogger who finds Bergoglio to be crafty from day one of his papacy, naming himself after Francesco d'Assisi, it is difficult to accept that a "destroyer" is presently in the Vatican and that the prophesy of Saint Francis of Assisi is unfolding in his lifetime.

Holy Politics

"Holy politics" sounds sacrilegious just like any other holy whatever.  This title was inspired by Bergoglio even though he did not use these words.  On January 1, as part of his Angelus address, he said [1]:

And here we return to the icon of today’s feast, from which we started: the icon of the Holy Mother of God, who shows us the Son, Jesus Christ, Saviour of the world. He is the Blessing for every person and for the whole human family. He is the source of grace, mercy, and peace. Therefore, the holy Pope Paul VI decided that the first of January should be the World Day of Peace; and today we celebrate the fifty-second Day, whose theme is: Good Politics Is at the Service of Peace. We must not think that politics is reserved only to rulers: we are all responsible for the life of the “city,” of the common good; and politics is also good in the measure in which each one does his part at the service of peace. May the Holy Mother of God help us in this daily commitment.

This blogger could very well be blind since he is unable to see even a hint of politics in the humility of the Blessed Mother and in the "grace, mercy and peace" of Christ, yet he sees Bergoglio as a deft political player in that he justified his playing of politics, in addition to linking political peace to Christ's peace and ultimately to a prayer to the Mother of God in his Angelus quoted above.  The peace of Christ, as this blogger understands it, is not a worldly peace.  The Lord said [2]:

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.

If everyone has within oneself Christ's peace at all times, then there will be no turmoil, no strife, no violence and no war.  Bergoglio chose not refer to the above-quoted words of Christ when he spoke of peace.  This could be purposefully done for his political convenience and expediency.

By omitting Christ's words on peace and by linking secular world peace to Christ's peace in his Angelus, is Bergoglio trying to deceive and confuse people by twisting the words of Christ just as the Serpent had deceived and confused Eve by twisting God's first and only commandment in the Garden of Eden?  Quoted below without references was the exchange between Eve and the Serpent [3]:

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”

“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Is there a difference between Bergoglio's and the Serpent's craftiness in that the Lord's words had been perverted to achieve their ends?

Another observation here is that Bergoglio referred to Paul VI as "the holy Pope Paul VI" in his Angelus as opposed to Saint Paul VI even though Paul VI was canonized on October 14, 2018, [4] by Bergoglio himself.  Was it a posthumous insult, professional jealousy or simply that Bergoglio truly did not believe Paul VI to be saintly at all?  Is Bergoglio's deliberate refusal to address Paul VI as a saint [5] a further example of his craftiness?

At some point someone would have to begin laying the groundwork for the arrival of the Antichrist that leads to the Second Coming of Christ.  Why not now and why not a crafty Bergoglio?  Who else could be in a better position and do a better job?

A New Year Begins With An American's Resignation

"Greg Burke, the director of the Vatican press office, and his deputy, Paloma Garcia Ovejero, have resigned, effective January 1....The timing of the resignations suggests a disagreement over new strategies for Vatican communications." [1]

As to be expected, the exact reasons for Burke and his deputy Overjero's resignations have not yet been made clear but one can speculate [2] and anticipate that a tell-all book or two could be forthcoming.  Meanwhile, one could guess at one of the reasons based on the divergent backgrounds of the two individuals, Burke and Bergoglio.

Burke "is an American journalist.  He was the Director of the Holy See Press Office.  He was formerly a correspondent for the Fox News Channel, and for Time Magazine, based in Rome." [3]  As such, he is probably inclined to be transparent in reporting the facts balanced by his experience in re-stating embarrassing positions taken and spontaneous utterances to help save face.

Bergoglio, in contrast, is a politician deep down more so than a shepherd who is pastoral and disinterested in politics.  As with most politicians, there are secrets and maybe even scandals.  Bergoglio most certainly has both.

Thus, it is transparency that Bergoglio is unhappy with and as a true politician, Bergoglio likes doublespeak and uses words that are often shrouded in ambiguity with insinuations when he is not keeping silent.  The juxtaposition of two irreconcilables, transparency and secrecy, is where the two men cannot find compromise in the same way that truth and deceit in both its forms--intentional nondisclosure and misrepresentation--have no common ground.

Whether Bergoglio's new team will serve Bergoglio to his liking remains to be seen.

It is interesting to note that Bergoglio seems blind to the fact that the papacy is not a position of power but of humility, that all who are at the Vatican work for God Who being all good has no differences in approach and result in leading all souls to Heaven.  Humility, kindness, mercy and love is a language that everyone in the world instinctively recognizes and comprehends.  All that seems to be sorely missing from this and other papacies.
